Stranger Things theme song composers Michael Stein and Kyle Dixon (of Austin, Texas synthwave group S U R V I V E) have seen their careers reach new heights thanks in part to the success of the Netflix franchise.
The duo has now revealed some of the details and technique behind the award-winning composition in an interview with well-known music podcast series, SONG EXPLODER.
“The Duffers reached out to us ‘cause they used our music in a mock trailer,” said Stein on the pair’s relationship with the show’s creators (Matt and Ross Duffer).

Jon: “The first actual piece of hardware was a Yamaha CS2x. I'd seen Sister Bliss from Faithless using one and then Depeche Mode using one live and that was my mind made up. Actually, I still have it in storage at the studio. Might have to dig it back out...”
What is your favourite bit of kit at the moment?
Aphex Twin has uploaded a video showing how his track ‘Vordhosbn’ was made using now discontinued tracking software PlayerPro.
In a clip uploaded to his official Vimeo channel, the producer plays through the track in the retro software, showing the MIDI notes, waveforms, drum sounds and more.
Sadly, it doesn’t go into detail on his more intricate drum programming, but it’s still a rare glimpse behind the curtain from the once-secretive producer.
