Rihanna, Nas and Megan Thee Stallion are among the artists to sign a letter calling for reform in the New York City Police Department.

Yesterday (8th June), a handful of artists, athletes and music industry professionals signed an open letter, asking New York City to repeal statute 50-A.

Statute 50-A is a law that conceals a police officers' personnel records from public view, and those signing the letter urged the government to provide complete transparency on employees within law enforcement.

Figures in New York City nightlife have banded together to launch an emergency fund for clubs, venues and employees affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. 

NYC Nightlife United has been launched by Brooklyn bar Friends and Lovers and event promoter and publication AdHoc, and aims to provide “immediate relief to shuttered cultural spaces affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

New York club Nowadays will host live-streamed “virtual parties”.

Virtually Nowadays is a new, nightly livestream from the Ridgewood club, which launched with some broadcasts at the beginning of the week, and will now host a run of live sets from DJs. The club is currently closed due to the global coronavirus, or COVID-19, pandemic.

Tonight (19th March), Virtual Thursday will welcome Jasmine Infiniti, with GIA, before DJ Python and Halal on Friday. Over the weekend, performances will come courtesy of Jubilee, Physical Therapy, and Mister Sunday & Soul Summit Music.

Clubs and live music venues across New York City have been forced to close as a result of a newly decreed order by mayor Bill DeBlasio.

A new listening bar, Good Bar, will open in Brooklyn, New York, this Friday 28th February.

Brainchild of the crew behind 500-capacity Good Room, where forthcoming events include the likes of Mike Huckaby and Session Victim, this new project is aimed squarely at audiophiles. A vintage Thorens TD 160 turntable and Klipsch Heresy III speakers will feature, with local craft beer and late kitchen providing refreshments. 

New York club The Dance is set to close after just four months on the Manhattan nightlife map. 

Opening in October 2019, the venue announced the news via an Instagram post on Monday 10th February, along with details of a final party set for Tuesday 18th February, with US Girls on the bill. Management issues have been blamed for the sudden shuttering. 

Carl Cox will host an all-night takeover at Brooklyn club, Avant Gardner.

US Governer Andrew Cuomo has announced a $3.5 million dollar grant to build the world's first hip-hop museum in New York.

Situated in the South Bronx borough, birthplace of the likes of Slick Rick, Fat Joe, and Mary J. Blige, and also known as the “Boogie Down” Bronx, the district is considered by many to be the home of hip-hop.

SOPHIE and Jlin are the latest additions to the lineup for the New York edition of Unsound on 23rd November. 

Unsound New York will take place on 22nd November with a free opening concert at St Peter's Church, Chelsea, and then the full event on 23rd November at Knockdown Centre. 

The new additions come after the news that Amnesia Scanner have had to pull out of their scheduled performance.

James Blake has announced four solo piano shows for December. 

Dates are set for Los Angeles Ace Theatre (10th and 11th) and New York's Harvey Theatre (17th and 18th). Performances will involve original solo and collaborative work.
