Nottingham's finest, Soul Intent, returns this month with the long-awaited 'Cowboy Town EP', forthcoming on his own Lossless Music.
'Cowboy Town' has been doing the rounds on the drum & bass circuit for a while now, garnering support from the likes of Doc Scott, Loxy and Marcus Intalex. Check out the latest issue of DJ Mag to see what our very own Whisky Kicks makes of it.
Dutch drum & bass trio Noisia have created the soundtrack for forthcoming gothic beat-em-up video game DmC: Devil May Cry.
Although they are better known for crafting screw-face basslines and intricate drum patterns for club kids the Noisia sound has always had a distinct soundtracking quality. DJ Mag met with the Nik, Martjin and Thijs from Noisia to find out about the project.
NICK LOMAX (LOADSTAR)
It was 2003 and I had my first DJ gig, a freezing cold night in Manchester. I already had a few records out under the name Holdtight — and received quite a good booking through Metropolis, who run the biggest drum & bass nights up in the North.
So I played after Bailey, and it was a late slot, 3-4am. I remember turning up at the club and it was going off seriously hard!
Andy C was presented with the coveted Best DJ Award at the Drum & Bass Arena Awards at Electric Brixton last night. The evening was topped off for the longstanding scene leader when Ram Records aslo won the gong for best label.
Elsewhere Calyx & TeeBee topped off a fine year by bagging the Best Producer Award, Best Track for 'Elevate This Sound' and Best Video for 'Pure Gold' (below).
S.P.Y. was into hip-hop in the early '90s until he started hearing some life-changing dance music. “I heard The Prodigy 'Music Reach' and Jonny L 'Hurt You So', and I was just blown away,” the Brazilian DJ/producer tells DJ Mag. “I think because the breaks were similar to hip-hop, but fast. So from there I have been following all the jungle and drum & bass evolution ever since.”
