Spotify is launching its own awards show, logically titled The Spotify Awards, with the focus on Latin America's huge music market. 

The streaming giant has stated the aim is to offer a "true reflection of what fans are listening to". The first ceremony will be held on 5th March 2020, in Mexico City — currently a hotbed for cutting edge electronic music.

GREEN VALLEY, BRAZIL

Santa Catarina in southern Brazil has been the boom state of the South American country over the past 20 years. Its mix of fine beaches, idyllic islands, lush vegetation and newly-erected skyscrapers have made it a premier tourist destination.

Yu Yu has become the latest club to open in Mexico City, adding yet another quality-spec destination to a capital which already includes revered addresses such as Foro Normandie, MONO, and Club Rhodesia Social.

The venue is situated at Calle Versalles 94, in the Juárez neighbourhood, occupying the basement of a historic 19th-century building with enough room on the floor for 120 dedicated party people. It also lays claim to a Martin Audio Blackline X Series system, which basically means crystal clear and incredibly punchy acoustics.

Latin America has had a thriving electronic music scene for decades now. In recent years their clubs have become mainstays in our annual Top 100 Clubs poll. However – a few notable exceptions aside – Latin American DJs haven't always achieved the international recognition they deserved, at least until now.

In 2017’s Top 100 DJs poll, four Latin American DJs were listed, all of whom are bonafide international stars.

It has been a huge year for Latin America in this year’s Top 100 Clubs poll, with new venues from across the region making themselves known on the global stage. This combined with the continued dominance of Brazilian clubs demonstrate that South America is a red hot place for dance music right now.
